Bhakti Charu Maharaj’s Summer Visit To Singapore

10300955_1425903481011434_6974316310293130175_nHis Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaja left for Singapore on 27th April 2016 from Ujjain. Maharaja took a time off from his hectic schedule to visit Singapore from 28th April up to 2nd May 2016.  The organizer of Artha Forum had requested Maharaj to re-visit Singapore after the forum they held recently in Singapore on January 2016. The main purpose was to follow up with the previous forum attendees. The gathering took place on 30th April 2016 with 40 attendees and the topic on Hinduism was being discussed. Demystifying the Indian Spiritual Tradition – Talk With Sanjeev Sanyal and Bhakti Charu Swami

Another reason for Maharaja’s visit to Singapore was due to the devotees from Bangladesh.

Said Maharaja, “These devotees are working so hard. They work for 10 to 12 hours a day, then the commuting takes place for another 2 to 3 hours and it takes another hour to get back. So fifteen hours a day spent thus. They cook themselves. Still they chant 16 rounds. And they display such enthusiasm. The one day leave that they get as a free vacation, from morning to evening, they are at the temple. They earn little from working so hard. They live in such a difficult condition, still the way they display commitment to Krishna consciousness is remarkable.”

Therefore, Maharaja felt obliged to visit the Bengali devotees and spend some time with them.  Maharaja wanted to reciprocate their loving services towards Krishna and also to the other devotees.

Meanwhile, on the days that followed, Maharaj also conducted a short retreat on Vaishnava etiquette in English on 29th April followed by two sections, morning and evening, on Saranagati, the art of surrendering in both English and Bengali from 30th April up to 2nd May.

For Vaishnava Etiquettes, Maharaja spoke about the three stages or type of devotes; the kaniṣṭha-adhikārī, the madhyama-adhikārī and the uttama-adhikārī. The verses from which Maharaja spoke about these three types of devotees were taken from Srimad Bhagavatam. These verses were 11.2.47, 11.2.46 and 11.2.45 respectively.

Maharaja stated that the kaniṣṭha-adhikārī or the neophyte devotee, recognizes Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead and surrenders to Krishna. However, he doesn’t recognize other devotees and considers only himself to be the devotee of Krishna. The madhyama-adhikārī or the second-class devotee can discriminate between the pure devotees of Krishna and the non-believers or those who are detrimental to the Lord. They generally preach to the innocents and respect other devotees who accept the Lord as the one and only master. On the other hand, they ignore those who offend the Lord as they do not want them to become even more offensive. As for the uttama-adhikārī devotees or the top-class devotes, they believe that everyone else has become devotees, however, they are the only ones who couldn’t become a devotee. These pure devotees usually don’t preach because they can’t find fault in others, instead, they want to perfect themselves.

Maharaja also stated that Srila Prabhupada is a first-class devotee, and there is no doubt about that fact, however, Prabhupada had to bring himself down to the second-class devotee in order to spread Krishna Consciousness all over the world. Therefore, we should be grateful to Srila Prabhupada. A way to show gratitude to Prabhupada is by maintaining the healthy relationships with other devotees. The worst thing that could happen to ISKCON is if the devotees start to quarrel. To forge and maintain these relationships, Maharaja advised us to be engaged in the service of the Lord.

As for the Saranagati lecture, Maharaja selected several songs each day written by Bhaktivinoda Thakur from the Sarangati book and analyzed each word to perfection.

At the end of the Saranagati class in English, His Grace Devaki Nandan Prabhu announced the center’s plan to attract buyers for all of Prabhupada books especially in Singapore. After careful consideration, they decided the best way to distribute books all over Singapore is by operating an online website as distributing any ISKCON written books is really difficult with all the restrictions in Singapore. On that day, Maharaja was asked to officially inaugurate the website which was given the name, “Gita Reading Society”. The link to website is attached below.

http://www.grs.com.sg/

Maharaja had mentioned that a day would come in Singapore whereby people will queue up to buy Shrila Prabhupada’s books in the center.

Overall, Maharaja had a really packed and a hectic schedule during this short stay in Singapore. Although Maharaja had been in a poor state of health, He still wanted to spend time with the devotees in Singapore as well as Malaysia.  Maharaja hopes that Krishna Consciousness would spread widely in this region.

After spending four days in Singapore, Maharaj left for Kolkata on his way to Sridham Mayapur.

Gaura Purnima festival at ISKCON Ujjain

IMG_1683455313119

Gaura Purnima festival 2016 was celebrated with great grandeur in ISKCON Ujjain. Almost 350 devotees came from the different places in India to attend this festival. Fortunately, all the devotees got the rare association of HH Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaja. The entire temple was beautifully decorated with flowers & coloured lights. Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha Madanmohan, Sri Sri Krishna Balarama, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Prahladesha Narsingadeva were offered new outfits.

On Gaura Purnima Day, Maharaja shared the nectarine pastimes of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and all the devotees were blissfully hearing. Some points from the lectures given by Maharaja are as follows:

  1. As Kali yuga progresses, the situation of the world will degrade more & more & the only thing which can save this world is the Krishna consciousness movement.
  2. When we face the evil influences of Kali, what should we do? Should we run away? No! We have to chant the holy name & Krishna will protect us.

(Example:- Srila Prabhupada did Nagar Sankirtan in Calcutta at the time of the second world war & as a result of this kirtan, no bombing in Calcutta!)

  1. We have to leave our material attachments behind & always be ready when Krishna comes to takes us back to Godhead.
  2. Vedic culture teaches us the vital truths of life –
    1. This life is not everything;
    2. Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead;
    3. Goal of life is to develop love for Krishna; and
    4. Our life should be moulded in such a way that we can always remember Krishna & never forget Him.

In the evening ISKCON Youth Forum boys & ISKCON Youth Forum Girls teams’ presented 3 wonderful dramas. The themes of these dramas were:-

Deliverance of Jagai – Madhai; Gaura- Nitai Deities of Gauridas Pandit and Haridas Thakurs pastimes.

It was followed by Maharaja’s lecture on Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu & Maha-abhishek of Sri Sri Gaura- Nitai. Thereafter all the devotees were served sumptuous prasad.

The day was spent by devotees participating in ecstatic kirtans & hearing Caitanya- katha given by different devotees and especially by HH Bhakti Prema Swami Maharaja. The ISKCON Youth Forum devotees led ecstatic kirtans the entire day & joyfully danced in temple.

ISKCON Ujjain Gobal Spiritual Retreat 2015

IMG_0892

It’s a great fortune to be a part of ISKCON Ujjain’s global retreat 2015. All devotees around the world eagerly anticipate this retreat throughout the year. It is held in Ujjain annually during the last week in December  approximately from the 25th-31st December. In many ways the retreats in Ujjain are extremely special. Devotees from all over the world come together to hear the nectarian  Krishna Katha from the lotus mouth of His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaja, chant, dance  and feast together in the most blessed place, ISKCON Ujjain. The association of the Ujjain devotees are very loving that we do not want to go home after the retreat. Devotees from South Africa, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Fiji, Holland, Australia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Korea and many other different parts of India like Mumbai, New Delhi, Bhopal, Pune, Vadodara, Surat etc had joined the event.

Devotees from Ujjain and many students from Bhopal, Indore, Guna and other places also came to attend this retreat to take this wonderful opportunity to serve many senior devotees from around the world.

The Ujjain retreat is one of Maharaja’s the most cherished blessings for his disciples. He preaches extensively throughout the globe in so many different places during the year and then at the end of the year many of his dedicated disciples from these places get together in Ujjain to hear about Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krishna from our most beloved Maharaja.

Devotees of ISKCON Ujjain made outstanding arrangements for transportation, accommodation, prasadam and devotee care. Maharaja was personally involved in taking care of the various aspects of the retreat management. Maharaja’s most wonderful mood of Vaishnava seva pervades the entire Ujjain temple. From Senior to Junior, all devotees were busy in serving the honoured guests and were lovingly serving day and night to make this retreat a most memorable event.

The Retreat had 2 sessions per day. The first session was from 11 am to 1pm and the next session was from 4-6 pm.

The first day, 25th December 2015, in Srimad Bhagavatam class, Maharaja very wonderfully described the glories of Srimad Bhagavatam. He mentioned in the class how Srimad Bhagavatam is the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literature. This Srimad Bhagavatm class was meant to give devotees a clear understanding of the glories of Srimad Bhagavatam and for initiating an interest in the devotees for the wonderful seminar entitled “Krishna’s Mathura and Dwaraka pastimes”.

In the Seminar sessions, Maharaja first mentioned about the benefit of hearing Krishna katha in the association of devotees. He then started to narrate the events leading to Krishna’s coming out of Vrindavan to kill Kamsa. He mentioned that when Krishna killed Keshi and threw his dead body to Mathura, Kamsa became very fearful after seeing it and started making plans to invite Krishna and Balarama to Mathura on the pretense of funfair and his intention was to kill both of them in the wrestling arena. Krishna and Balarama came to Mathura and killed Kamsa very easily and then stayed in Mathura. After some time, when Kalayavana and Jarasandha attacked Mathura simultaneously then Lord shifted His capital to Dwaraka, a beautiful city in the midst of the ocean.

Maharaja sequentially narrated the different pastimes that took place in Mathura and Dwaraka so eloquently. It is natural, Him being a pure devotee, that he is always seeing and relishing Krishna’s pastimes in His heart and mercifully allowing us to hear and also appreciate those pastimes from Him so that our hearts may also become purified. Hearing the Lord’s pastimes in the sweet voice of Maharaja is an unparalleled attraction for all his disciples and well wishers around the world.

Hearing Lord’s pastimes from Maharaja is the most auspicious blessing for all of us. Maharaja mentioned in one of the sessions the meaning and importance of the verse “Tava Kathamritam tapta jivanam”.   He explained that Krishna Katha is amrita, Nectar for the people suffering in this desert like material existence.

Almost every evening, Maharaja lead ecstatic kirtans for an one hour. He sang Selected Vaishnava Bhajans and then Kirtans and the devotees danced very enthusiastically to this transcendental kirtans for the pleasure of their Lordships and for the pleasure of Maharaja.

On the 31st December 2015, we celebrated the appearance day of HH Bhakti Prema Swami Maharaja. HH Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaj personally invited HH Bhakti Prema Swami Maharaja on the stage and gloried him for his wonderful services at Ujjain. HH Bhakti Charu Swami Maharaja mentioned the wonderful qualities of HH Bhakti Prema Swami Maharajawhich was then followed by the cake cutting ceremony.

In the last session on 31st December 2015, Maharaja acknowledged the various retreat services rendered by Ujjain devotees and he glorified many devotees for serving so nicely for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada and the Vaishnavas.IMG_1024

In the thanks giving ceremony, seminar participants shared their experiences of attending the retreat. Their genuine glorification of Maharaja and the devotees touched the heart of everyone. Maharaja was thanking to all of them for their valuable contributions in the mission of Srila Prabhupada.

The retreat was followed by an initiation ceremony on 1st January 2016. 70 devotees received first initiation to the shelter of the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada by Maharaja.

Each and every devotee mentioned this unforgettable experience in the Ujjain retreat and they cannot wait for the next one.
