A Calling, Divine

A Calling, Divine A Journey Sublime

Dearest devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances.
All glories to Our Beloved Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to Our Dearmost Srila Bhakti Charu Swami Guru Maharaj!

At the present moment we find ourselves grappling with the grief of losing our beloved spiritual father. Indeed, a crater of agony has been carved deep into the core of our hearts. At this painful juncture of our journey towards Krishna, we can certainly feel the words of our Guru Maharaj come to life as we personally experience the wonderful support from Srila Prabhupada’s illustrious ISKCON family. The way all the senior leaders of our movement are remembering and glorifying Guru Maharaj, shows a glimpse of how much love Guru Maharaj shared with each and every devotee of ISKCON.

In this light, we are working together to preserve and promote his legacy, his teachings, instructions and mostly his deep love for Srila Prabhupada and ISKCON as the focus of our activities now more than ever. We place ourselves humbly at your feet, seeking your kind assistance and blessings in this sincere endeavour.

As you are aware, after our Guru Maharaj’s Samadhi ceremony draws to a close, we plan to develop a pushpa samadhi for His Holiness in Ujjain. We are also planning to convert his living quarters into a museum with all of Guru Maharaj’s personal paraphernalia. All the donations will be secured in fixed deposit for the ongoing service to Guru Maharaj.

We have therefore created a depository fund in pursuance of the following related projects, which would help us take good care of them:
Puspa Samadhi Construction
Memorial museum at Guru Maharaj’s quarters
BCS Media (Guru Maharaj’s lectures, kirtans, websites, transcripts)
BCS Books Publication (Completing Guru Maharaj’s pending books)
Maintenance of Samadhi temples and museum
Annual festivals on Vyasapuja and Disappearance days

Departure of Maharaj

A message from the GBC Executive Committee at 8.30am ET on 4th July 2020.

Dear Devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

It is with overwhelming heartache that we announce to you the departure of our beloved godbrother and a dearmost servant of Srila Prabhupada, His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami.

From his earliest days as a young devotee, Maharaja had the extraordinary privilege of serving as one of Srila Prabhupada’s confidential, personal servants. And ever since, His Holiness Bhakti Charu Maharaja’s life has been an offering of love at the lotus feet of his spiritual master.

Indeed, there was not a service that Maharaja did not perform for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada. As instructed in their very first meeting, Maharaja translated every one of Srila Prabhupada’s written works into Bengali, the language of Srila Prabhupada’s own birth. To fulfill this cherished order, Maharaja took on years of austerity, rising at midnight to carefully translate his spiritual master’s divine words.

Maharaja served as one of the most active members of the GBC Body, he was an initiating spiritual master with many dedicated disciples all over the world, and he shared Krishna consciousness in every segment of society from simple Bangladeshi villages to the British parliament. Maharaja encouraged and advised ISKCON leaders in management and spiritual topics, he saved more than one ISKCON project in times of despair, and did his utmost to contribute to the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society.

One of Maharaja’s unique contributions was the “Abhay Charan” television series that brought the glorious life and pastimes of Srila Prabhupada to the world on an unprecedented scale. And most recently, Maharaja again heightened the glory of his spiritual master by building a marvelous temple and devotee community in the holy city of Ujjain.

Maharaja’s voice, sweeter than honey, has immortalised many of our acaryas’ prayers, and most famously, Maharaja’s heartfelt rendition of the gopis’ song of seperation from the 10th Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam rings in our ears.

Despite his position and many qualifications, both material and spiritual, Maharaja was a humble and loving gentleman who took pleasure in serving devotees. Indeed, one of Maharaja’s favorite pastimes was to personally cook and serve prasadam for the devotees. As in all aspects of his service and gentle and cultured nature, Maharaja’s cooking was highly refined and infused with bhakti.

There are no words that provide solace when facing separation from such a glorious Vaisnava, but we can take some comfort in the fact that His Holiness Bhakti Charu Maharaja lived constantly in meditation on how to serve Srila Prabhupada and his mission. Undoubtedly, he now continues that service under the direction of His Divine Grace.

Let us offer true homage to Maharaja by continuing his legacy of service in our own lives. Let us commit ourselves, mind, body, and soul, to the service of Srila Prabhupada, following in the footsteps of his beloved servant, His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami.

One of Maharaja’s most cherished instructions from His Divine Grace was, “Your love for me will be show by how you cooperate together after I am gone.” Now, in Maharaja’s absence, we are reminded to take that instruction to heart and reaffirm our dedication to ISKCON, and to each other.

We also commit ourselves, as Maharaja’s servants, to assist and care for his loving disciples in his absence. It was very important to Maharaja that we operate as one family in Srila Prabhupada’s service and we remind you today that although Maharaja is no longer physically present, you are protected by the shelter of many devotees who are ready to offer you the support you may require at this difficult time and in the future.

As Maharaja often glorified Srila Prabhupada with the beautiful words of the gopis, let us also remember Maharaja as that most munificent Vaisnava who will eternally inspire the followers of Srila Prabhupada to share the glories of Lord Krishna:

tava kathamrtam tapta-jivanam
kavibhir iditam kalmasapaham
sravana-mangalam srimad atatam
bhuvi grnanti ye bhuri-da janah

“The nectar of Your words and the descriptions of Your activities are the life and soul of those suffering in this material world. These narrations, transmitted by learned sages, eradicate one’s sinful reactions and bestow good fortune upon whoever hears them. These narrations are broadcast all over the world and are filled with spiritual power. Certainly those who spread the message of Godhead are most munificent.”

His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami ki jaya!

Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!

Hare Krsna,

Your servants,

Ramai Swami
Bhakti Caitanya Swami
Bhanu Swami,

Retreat Seminar Lecture

DELAND RETREAT

His Holiness arrived at Florida USA at the end of July in time for his retreat in the US, held in Deland, Orlando, from 31st July to 5th August 2019. Devotees from all over USA came to participate in retreat. More than 200 devotees attended the retreat and made their way to hear HH Bhakti Charu Swami’s seminars on the topics of Sri Brahma Samhita. His Holiness’s sunshine like darshan immediately set alight everyone’s devotional mood and soon the temple program started that evening with Gaura Aarti. Everyone gathered and very eagerly awaited the darshan of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. The devotees beamed with excitement and joy.

His Holiness also thereafter set aside some time to hear two talented, young boys recite, by heart, shlokas from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. HG Narahari Prabhu was also asked to play sitar for the devotees gathered and all together this was very pleasing for everyone to hear.

For the days that followed, the daily program began auspiciously with Mangal aarti. Everyone received an opportunity to participate in all kinds of services. Some were engaged in worship in the temple, singing, serving the devotees, playing instruments and much more.

His Holiness orchestrated the program in such a wonderful way for  devotional service opportunities for everyone to be engaged in. His Holiness journeyed into the depths of the essence of Sri Brahma Samhita and everyone focused attentively on his divine words of wisdom. Everyone entered in a whole new world of wonder and truth.

Deland’s famous prasadam was also something that everyone was eager to relish and honour! This is due to the selection of the cooks being chosen and trained by His Holiness himself. After prasadam there were all sorts of activities that everyone, both adults and children got engaged in spontaneously, for example, taking advantage of the sun by paddling on the lake, digesting the rich nature of Deland by taking a stroll down one of its walkways, feeding and playing with the gentle cows and calves, or taking a peak into Deland’s ever increasing farm full of fruits, vegetables and flowers.

We were very fortunate to have the esteemed presence of His Grace Dvaipayana Prabhu, the Temple President of ISKCON Orlando. The association of His Holiness was treasured by all and he gave as much time as he could to as many of the devotees he could see, without any discrimination. In this way His Holiness exhibited a very extraordinary quality of deep compassion for everyone.

The last day was reserved for His Holiness to give initiation to a group of fortunate candidates. The lecture and ceremony both took place in Deland’s temple room. His Holiness began by discussing the importance of initiation and also tested the candidates on their knowledge of the ten offenses. The fire sacrifice was conducted soon thereafter. The sun shone on Deland brightly as these devotees took a big step in their spiritual life with the guidance of such a spiritual master as HH Bhakti Charu Swami His Holiness, who has dedicated his life in the service of Srila Prabhupada, and has taken the responsibility to bring so many souls to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada.

Our temple of Deland was transformed by the divine presence and association of His Holiness and all the devotees. We were all enraptured by hearing the pure, sweet and inspiring voice of His Holiness again and again day after day and grateful for the being in the presence of such wonderful souls.
