(Bhakti Charu Swami’s recollection of Srila Prabhupada)
It is always a feast for the soul of an ISKCON devotee to know more and more about Srila Prabhupada. As Krishna has unlimited qualities and unlimited ways to reciprocate with His devotees, similarly Krishna’s pure devotees also inherit the same qualities. Srila Prabhupada has undoubtedly touched millions of hearts, however only some rare souls got his close association during his manifested pastimes. It is indeed a blessing to hear from those rare souls about their unique experiences with Srila Prabhupada. Bhakti Charu Swami recollects his intimate interactions with Srila Prabhupada in his book “Ocean of Mercy” which provides a wonderful opportunity to go close to His Divine Grace.
This classic memoir of Bhakti Charu Swami, though launched only a few months back, and it is yet to reach some parts of world, it has already won hearts of so many sincere followers of Srila Prabhupada.
Following are some the statements of appreciation from few of the most senior devotees of our movement:
I just finished reading your book about your spiritual sojourn and your time with Srila Prabhupada. It was such a pleasant and inspiring read. There was even the added benefit of Srila Prabhupada’s upma recipe. My only complaint is that reading it threw off my schedule. I would pick up the book at 8pm and the next thing I knew it would be 10:30pm, I would late for going to bed, and I still could not put the book down. Thank you for giving us this gem and thank you for your dedicated and loving service to Srila Prabhupada.
Bhakti Charu Swami takes us by hand and brings us into Srila Prabhupada’s private quarters and at times to his bedside during the final year of his physical presence. As I read this book I was astonished and enlightened. I laughed and I cried as I was carried into the personal presence of Srila Prabhupada through this beautiful gift of his loving servant.
I’ve just finished reading your book “Ocean of Mercy.” Many thanks for this sweet memoir, sharing with us your experiences and bringing us closer to Srila Prabhupada – and to you.
Just to let you know I am reading it and having difficulty putting it down.
Bhakti Marga Swami
I received your beautiful gift of The Ocean of Mercy. I’m reading it with full delight. Thank you so much for doing this. I mean it from my heart.
You have written a critical memoir, one that blends historic detail with the outpourings of a loving heart. Anyone reading “Ocean of Mercy” will understand the true meaning of the guru-sisya relationship. Thank you for this precious work. I could not put it down. With gratitude for your devotion and service to our beloved Srila Prabhupada.
It was tasty and it filled in more clearly my understanding of who you are. Clearly, everyone had affection for you for your entire life. We were so happy to hear of Anandamayi Ma’s predication about you! Indeed she was wise. Seeing how Srila Prabhupada immediately recognized you and pulled you close to him was endearing. Your loving devotion to Prabhupada was steady and only increased. You saw the good in all the devotees, and I more clearly understood your affection for TKG. The book’s cover captivated me and made easy my access into your personal and private relationship with Prabhupada, even as the sun set on his life. I was intrigued by many little comments Prabhupada made to you (no need of ekadasi before 8 and after 80, for example) and some of the philosophical points Prabhupada explained to you (the theistic progression sad darshan offers, for example). I also was intrigued by how you chose what to present and what not to present of Prabhupada’s final days.
This work describes how the author developed a humble love and dedication to Srila Prabhupada, who gave him a life of Krishna Bhakti and thus revealed himself to be truly “an ocean of mercy.”
Daiva Shakti Dasi
I was waiting for this book for forty years. Actually, in this book Maharaja’s say something very wonderful about Prabhupada, about how he speaks but I feel that this is actually the way this book is. He says “Prabhupada was imparting the greatest wisdom with the most sublime simplicity.” So, I feel actually that’s the way your book is, the greatest wisdom about Srila Prabhupada with the most sublime simplicity.
Your book is very inspiring, it show the heart of a beautiful Vaishnava that you are.
Krishnanandini Devi Dasi
It was nectar from beginning to end. I was enthralled by the intimate glimpses of Srila Prabhupada and his entourage of disciples and well-wishers during the last years of his life. I appreciated how you shared your life journey that ended with you taking shelter of the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada. Personal anecdotes, the illustrations and the Krishna lilas, (stories) you revealed, present a well-rounded picture that made the book eminently readable and interesting. Your insights, your honesty and the wonderful details of your memories give such a splendid vision of the early growth of ISKCON, its challenges, its successes and the fantastic commitment of our beloved guru to spread Sri Caitanya’s movement all over the globe. And thank you very much for your gift to the world through this powerful narration.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and realizations in “Ocean of Mercy”. Your recounting of finding your spiritual path, coming to ISKCON, developing your relationships with the devotees and then personally surrendering to, associating with, serving and receiving loving guidance from HDG Srila Prabhupada, was very enlivening for me, when I recently read it. I also especially found the first hand perspective you give into the pastimes of Srila Prabhupada during the final period of His time here with us very refreshing and valuable. Thank you again so much for sharing your memories and realizations with all of us.
