I am trying to contact a lady who just a few days ago I heard her telling stories on the Belgian radio. She has been writing for a few years to an American prisoner who was on death row in American prisons. He was sentenced to death since about ten years. The American court system allows people to appeal, therefore he had not been executed since that many years. He was locked up in a concrete cell of about 2 to 3 metres, 23 hours a day!! This unfortunate Amercian citizen was allowed visits only behind protection glass. American prisons are no joke, guards are real tough, they treat the prisoners as mere numbers who don’t actually exist. Regularly they rudely check out prisioners obliging them to be completely naked. In his cell there was only a small window up near the ceiling, he had to stand on his bed and reach out to see anything outside..
That prisoner was always pleading unguilty but he did not manage to convince the American courts, mainly because he had no money. Recently he was executed and then of course they found out that actually he was not guilty. His uncle had committed a crime and had asked him to admit the crime to the police. Minority age people are usually not to be executed etc. But despite his minority age at that time that rule was ignored and he was sentenced to death anyway…
The Belgian lady was writing to him for about three years and that prisoner told him: you are my eyes, tell me what you live every day, tell me about your life. She did that to her best capacity. About 90 days before he died, the man asked her to come over. He wanted to be present at his execution act. “Everyone here treated me as a mere number, I so much hope to die in your presence” he said.
When she first met him the Belgian lady saw how despite such torturing conditions the man always had a smile on his face. He told her how he so much and so intensily appreciated life and he refused to have grudges against anything or anyone. It is of course not difficult to imagine how grateful he must have felt for this lady to be determant to write to him in that incredibly piteous condition.
Especially during the Christmas days one can perceive a little bit the screams of millions of souls in this material world similarly thirsting for a drop of Vaikuntha nectar which is openly flowing from the gates of the Iskcon Ujjain Temple. How to guide them to drink that nectar ?
What a sight to see people enter the temple so freely, youths dancing so joyfully in front of the most merficul glances of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai, Sri Sri Radha-Madan Mohan and Sri Sri Krishna-Balarama!
All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga !
All glories to Srila Prabhupada !
