9th  Nov – Srila Prabhupadas Disappearance day.

*Guru Maharaj narrated the final last moments of Srila Prabhupada – including his last travels to Hrishikesh, London and return back to Mumbai and Vrndavan to spend his final days. Despite the difficulties, Gurudev was very instrumental in arranging the ayurvedic medicine for Srila Prabhupada and acting as a mediatior between the kavi (doctor) and Srila Prabhupada and his senior disciples. At one time Srila Prabhupada was happy to travel around Vrndavan parkirama with HH Lokanath swamis bullock cart. However other disciples (HH Tamal Krishna Goswami), were against it due to the poor conditon and discomfort it would cause to Srila Prabhupada and begged him not ot go. After an hour so Gurudev stopped the class, holding back the tears as he had recalled the final days of his beloved spirtual master Srila Prabhupada.*

*A senior Prabhupada mataji disciple who also happened to there when Srila Prabhupada passed away asked Gurudev if that was him with the small silver water pot giving water to Srila Prabhupada during his last few days. Guru Maharaj replied ‘yes’ and I believe he also said he still has that same water pot. (See The Final Lesson Video). Gurudev then sang ‘Je Anilo Prema Dhana’ to Srila Prabhupada with all the assembled devotees.*

*In the evening with a jammed pack house full of around two hundred devotees in the theatre room, he watched the Bhaktivedanta Players perform a beautiful lila of  Srila Prabhupada ‘That Was A Great Fight’ . This was the story that told the struggle in which Srila Prabhupada and his disciples headed by Giriraj Swami underwent, acquiring the Juhu Beach Mumbai temple.*

Disciple Meeting with HH Bhakti Charu Swami 10th Nov 2010 (Bhaktivedanta Manor, London)

*(words below have been paraphrased from classes)*

Srila Prabhupada said if you have $100s- all your $5 problems are resolved.

Similiarly when you are spiritually situated all your material problems will be resolved.

On the other hand if you are materially well, spiritually you will not be content.

Examples – Lord Rama played the role of an ideal King, son and husband and he was very happy to live in the forest during His exile.

Yudhithra Maharaj, became the Emporer of the world and within a few hours he lost everything, land, status, but he was happy living in exile with the Pandavas as he was spiritually motivated.

When in material distress, it is enough to commit suicide due to material attachment, without understanding spiritual life which is full of misery and distress.

Srila Prabhupada gave the means to Protect your wealth within ‘ISKCON’. That is Krishna Consciousness. We cant maintain our spiritual lives alone, that is why Srila Prabhupada systematically created this ISKCON. Create this family within ISKCON that Srila Prabhupada wanted to create.

*What constitutes a family?*

A family needs a head! The father is the head. Srila Prabhupada has come to counteract the influence of Kali. We see that family and see Srila Prabhupada as the father (Head) and place him in the centre of the family. Greater power and potency collectively to counteract the influence of Kali.

Lord Chaitanya came to destroy Kali… Yada yada hi dharmasya BG 4.7 … Krishna comes to establish the principles of religion. Maya comes to create adharma. Lord Chaitanya comes to create Dharma.

Our strength lies in our unity. We need to establish an institution- without it, it won’t happen.

Head of the body is Srila Prabhupada, Arms and limbs are the authority, scriptures.

Co-operate have the same goal, can be individually (50%)  our own spiritual development or collectively (50%) our propagation of Krishna Consciousness to others.

Engage yourself spiritually in this Movement, spread the message to others.  Please take this mission very seriously.

Priceless gifts Srila Prabhupada has given us, you can’t imagine how precious this is to solve your problems and help your ultimate goal. Money will not solve your problem!

Example of seedling that grows two leafs – one leaf represents auspiciousness – and one leaf represents freedom  from misery and distress.

Protect this wealth in Krishna Consciousness, become a useful limb of ISKCON and do not become a burden.

Some children are a liability or burden. Some children are a reliability.

*How can you all help?*

By rendering service that is required in ISKCON.

*Who wants to be a really good devotee – reaise both your hands?*

Chanting of Hare Krishna Maha mantra in unison!

Become serious in spiritual life. A leader needs a s follower and a follower needs a guide. Guru / Disciple relationship. A Guru is one who guides you – not just your initiating guru. You need a mentor a guide. Mentorship – ongoing guidance under Temple authority, Initiating Committee.

To have a Mentor – a spiritual guide – ideally four mentees to one mentor.  Mentorship based on Temple authority.

Be engaged in temple service.  – once a week, a few hours. If living far from Temple then distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books.

For those who are Second Initiated to do regular service few hours a week Deity worship at the temple. Sometimes becomes a status symbol if not practicing the qualifications of a brahmana.

Attend full morning programme at the temple regularly at least minimum once a month. (mangal arati, tulasi arati, japa, class etc).

Be part of a local sanga group.

Distribute Srila Prabhupada books and preach Krishna Consciousness to others.

Class at RadhaKrishna Temple (London) 12th Nov 2010-11-15

SB 10.13.43 Story of Lord Brahma stealing the cowherd boys and cows.

Translation (summarised): After thus Lord Brahma thinking and thinking for a long time, tried to extinguish between those set of boys who were both separately existing, who was real and who was not real but could not understand.

First Guru Maharaj explained how Srila Prabhupada elaborately wrote the Shrimad Bhagavatam and other books, producing commentaries as he spoke straight from his heart. Even at the final stages of life he hardly had enough energy to even move or eat yet he still carried on reciting and commenting on the final chapters of the Bhagavatam for the benefit of mankind.

Some may think Indra, Brahma or Lord Shiva are the supreme, but ultimately it is Krishna who is the Supreme and He had proven this in many of His lilas where all the demigods became bewildered.

In one story Lord Shivas dham was burnt to ashes by Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra. But why do these personalities get bewildered and cannot recognise Krishna as the Supreme authority. This is due to the actions of yogamaya and to enhance the loving pastimes of Krishna. In one story Brahma comes to test Krishna yet in another he becomes a pure devotee of Krishna and was born as Haridas Thakur. He was so humble, to the point of only taking darshan of the chakra at the top of Lord Jagannatha’s Temple as he felt too low to take darshan personally inside the temple. However Lord Chaitanya personally used to see Haridas Thakur everyday and take his darshan. What is impossible for Krishna He is inconceivable, that is why He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Q: Are the Vedas and the Bhagavatam smriti or sruti?

HHBCS: Generally all Vedas are smriti and Bhagavatam is shruti.

Q: Is there difference in Lord Shivas time duration to Lord Brahma and is there a Lord Shiva in every universe (like Lord Brahma)?

HHBCS: The time duration for Brahma and Shiva is the same in terms of the material creation. There is only one Sada Shiva and the others are expansions known as Rudra, one for each universe. As the Bhagavatam states he appeared between the eyes of Lord Brahma.

Q: How can one become immersed in these stories of Krishna on an intimate level rather than just on an intellectual level?

HHBCS: One has to act submissively and not averse and accept Krishna and His lila with full faith.

Q: How did a demon like Aghasura get liberated?

HHBCS: That is the mercy of the Lord, although Aghasura did not get pure devotion he was liberated by emerging into Krishnas body – ultimately one still has to come back to te material world. His behaviour and the way Krishna dealt with him is like a father telling of a naughty child and later offering the child a sweet out of compassion.

After class a few disciples and well wishers were fortunate to meet Gurudev.

Shrada mataji offered some sweets which Gurudev kindly distributed to everyone present.

Gurudev also commented on Shrada matajis talent as he complemented the beautiful garlands for Their Lordships Shri Shri Radha Londonisvara made by her.

As Gurudev was about to leave, Shrada mataji asked if is possible to bathe his feet next time when he comes. In his wonderful humour Gurudev, replied *OK – but you will have to wait till my feet get dirty.*
We all laughed as he proceeded to leave the RadhaKrishna temple to take breakfast nearby.

Thank you Gurudev for spending your precious time here once again in the UK and spiritually enlivening us all with your compassionate association.

Jaya Srila Gurudev!

Your fortunate servant
