Hare Krsna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga!
Below is the link to our trip. In this album, there is an interesting story about the Gaura-Nitai at the Bhakti Center in New York that I would like to share with you. The story of the Gaura-Nitai Deities is as follows:
One year, the asram leader Yajna-Purusa Prabhu, a senior disciple of HH Niranjana Swami, was visiting Ekacakra Dhama, the birthplace of Nityananda Prabhu. While taking darshan at the ISKCON temple there, he noticed the very unique forms of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai. Normally, Gaura-Nitai have both arms extending upwards, but these Deities were different. Lord Caitanya had His
right arm in the air, but His left arm was extended forward. Nityananda Prabhu had neither of His arms in the air, but rather both were extended forward, with palms facing the sky, as if He were giving away His divine mercy. While taking darshan, Yajna Purusa Prabhu felt that these were special, merciful forms of the Lord, and it would be so nice if they could extend their mercy to the
people of New York City, where it is much needed. Even though he knew that there was no hope or realistic expectation to ever bring the Deities back to New York, the desire somehow manifested in his heart to have Them in Manhattan, to give Their mercy at the place where Srila Prabhupada first started the Krsna Consciousness movement. He kept the desire in his heart, even though he knew the unlikeness of it ever taking place.
Shortly after, Yajna Purusa Prabhu came to find out that the temple was actually planning to replace the current Deities with ones of a more standard form. They no longer wanted to keep the Deites, because of the unique way Their arms were positioned. He inquired what was going to happen to the current Deities, and he was told that the temple was simply going to ask a near-by temple if they would be willing to take over the worship of the Deities. Yajna Purusa Prabhu was stunned. This was his chance. He asked if
there was any possibility that he could take the Deites back to New York and worship them there. After some thought, it was agreed that Deites could be taken to New York and settle into their new home there.
After arriving in New York, HH Indradyumna Swami gave the Deities the names Doyal Nitai, Vijay Gauranga.
Doyal Nitai and Vijay Gauranga ki Jaya!!!
